Kate Ballard, a renowned SMS Master Saddler and Saddle Fitter has recently made an exciting announcement! For the first time ever, she is offering courses to share her extensive knowledge and expertise with aspiring saddlers and saddle fitters, veterinarians, chiropractors and equine health care professionals. These courses will be run in Wellington, FL.

One day, two day, and one-on-one courses will be available!

With 35 years of experience in the industry, one of three licensed Master Saddlers in the USA, Kate Ballard has established herself as a trusted authority in the field of saddle fitting and craftsmanship. Her passion for equine well-being and commitment to excellence have earned her a reputation for producing high quality saddles and providing exceptional fitting services to Olympian's, Para Olympians and equestrians alike.

Students who enroll in Kate Ballard’s courses can expect to receive hands on training, theoretical knowledge and practical experience. They will have the opportunity to work closely with Kate and learn from her wealth of experience. The courses will be tailored to meet the needs of both beginners and experienced professionals, ensuring that each student gains a solid foundation in saddlery and saddle fitting.​

Syllabus​

This syllabus provides a focused and comprehensive approach to saddle fitting, enabling saddler fitters, veterinarians, chiropractors and equine health care professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge in a one to two day courses.

Objective 

The one day course is aimed to equip veterinarians, chiropractors and equine health care professionals with knowledge and practical skills necessary to assess saddle fit, ensuring optimal comfort and performance for the horse and rider.

The two day course is aimed at saddle fitters already in the field and need continuing education.

One on one training is also offered.

  • Importance of proper saddle fit.

  • Understanding the impact of saddle fit on the horse and rider’s biomechanics.

  • Saddles, their purpose, design, trees and panels.

  • Saddle panels and what’s in them.

  • How design affects fit and performance.

  • How to assess for a broken tree.

  • Techniques for evaluating saddle fit on a horse

  • Use of tools and equipment for fitting assessment.

  • Identifying common conformation issues in horses.

  • Identifying signs of poor saddle fit (behavioral and physical indicators)

  • Fitting saddles to various horses.

  • Participants will practice techniques with guidance.

  • Discussion of case studies and real-world fitting scenarios.

  • Troubleshooting common problems on saddle fitting.

  • Strategies for communicating with clients about saddle fit
